A New Tea Utensil to Expand the Enjoyment of Japanese Tea
ORIGAMI, a world-renowned coffee product brand known for its coffee drippers and coffee cups, has teamed up with Satén Japanese Tea, a popular Japanese tea stand in Tokyo, to develop a new tea dripper that has been in the works for about 18 months.
The tea dripper is designed to not only allow anyone to brew a uniformly delicious cup of tea, but also to express the pleasure of searching for one's favorite flavor.

The main feature of the “Tea Dripper,” which utilizes the know-how cultivated through the development of coffee drippers, is the “completely permeable system” that naturally extracts tea through holes in the bottom of the dripper when hot water is poured into the dripper with tea leaves in it.
Unlike the conventional immersion method, in which tea leaves are immersed in hot water for extraction, the extraction can be varied depending on the speed at which the water is poured, allowing the brewer to express his or her own taste preferences.
Holes realized with attention to every 0.1mm
The mechanism of the “tea dripper” is seemingly simple: only the liquid falls out without the tea leaves blocking the holes. However, if the holes are too large, not only will the tea leaves slip through the holes, but the hot water will flow down before the tea is extracted, and conversely, if the holes are too small, the tea leaves will spread out and quickly block the holes.
After various tests, including prototypes of about 20 different samples with uneven or tilted surfaces, a filter-type structure with a row of small holes at the bottom was adopted. From there, the number of holes was further determined, and the size of the holes was adjusted in 0.1 mm increments while comparing extraction times and tastes to realize a “completely permeable” dripper.
